Photoshop CS4 – Beginner Masking Technique

This is a quick tutorial on how to do a beginner-type mask (or how to “photoshop someone or an object into another photo”) in photoshop cs4. Hope it helps a bit, cheers!

Use the pen tool in the arena i want blended in with the back round, when i connect the dots everything inside is black, and when i go to use the brush to take everything out on the inside it asks if i want to take off the mask, fml.

little tip: hold shift or ctrl to keep the original form on the free transform but itll still get smaller or bigger ;D

Was the mask even necessary? Why not just use the eraser tool to isolate the image?

Because if you erase you can’t come back later and undo or change the “mask”. Whereas if you have an actual mask you CAN go back later and change it.

you can also use the magnetic lasso tool and drag it around the outline enstead of the quick selection tool might select it better if your background is more complex and hard to quick select.

Alt + right click and drag your mouse also works to change brush/tool sizes.

I’m a novice to photoshop yet I have yet to see any tutorial videos comment on this very useful feature.

I believe left drag makes it smaller and right bigger.
