Thank you, MattyBoy7777! Best 10 minutes of Photoshop training I’ve ever had. I just applied your instructions to an image that was resisting my clumsy attempts to sharpen it and voilà . Perfection. Thanks, also, for explaining the history of the term “unsharp mask,” which has always seemed like the most illogical name possible for this tool.
Oh, and one more thanks for the tip on toggling the cursor on/off the preview panel to see effect. Exxxxxxcellent.
